Education and training not only provides individuals with better job opportunities; it also offers industry a stronger, better prepared workforce. The Employment, Education and Training Team at the Chamber is dedicated to continued improvement of education and training opportunities for both business and individuals.
In 2010 and 2011, The Employment, Education and Training Team is delivering the READY Partnership Broker program. READY is part of the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations’ School Business Community Partnership Brokers program. As part of the National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions, READY puts the Chamber at the coalface of the ACT’s work to improve transition outcomes for young people as they move from school into the workforce.
Through this work, we continue to support businesses to improve their existing workforces. The Education and Training Adviser assists employers to find solutions to their employment needs by providing information about all aspects of the national training system and incentives available to employers and employees, as well as advising government on issues arising from the implementation of the system.
We also continue to support employers by providing an Industry Outreach Officer from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to advise on taking advantage of opportunities to address skill shortages by bringing skilled workers from overseas.
The ACT and surrounding region faces significant challenges as the workforce ages, and as economic growth places higher demands on it. The Chamber is committed to working with business, government and the community to face these challenges. Keep watching this website for more information, and if you would like to discuss any of these initiatives, please contact the Director of Employment, Education and Training, Trevar Chilver.
