Employment, Education & Training

Education and training not only provides individuals with better job opportunities; it also offers industry a stronger, better prepared workforce. The Employment, Education and Training Team at the Chamber is dedicated to continued improvement of education and training opportunities for both business and individuals.

The Employment, Education and Training Team is currently undergoing a restructure and an expansion to allow the Chamber to deliver the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations’ School Business Community Partnership Brokers program. This program is part of the National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions, and will see the Chamber at the coalface of the ACT’s work to improve transition outcomes for young people as they move from school into the workforce.

As we expand this work, we continue to support businesses to improve their existing workforces. The Education and Training Adviser assists employers to find solutions to their employment needs by providing information about all aspects of the national training system and incentives available to employers and employees, as well as advising government on issues arising from the implementation of the system.

We also continue to support employers by providing an Industry Outreach Officer from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to advise on taking advantage of opportunities to address skill shortages by bringing skilled workers from overseas.

The ACT and surrounding region faces significant challenges as the workforce ages, and as economic growth places higher demands on it. The Chamber is committed to working with business, government and the community to face these challenges. Keep watching this website for more information as the changes to the Employment, Education and Training Team progress, and if you would like to discuss any of these initiatives, please contact the Director of Employment, Education and Training, Trevar Chilver.

Regional Industry Career Adviser

The Regional Industry Career Adviser program has now ceased.

The Chamber provided this service for four years, linking business and industry to schools across the ACT and surrounding region, and the program was terminated by the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) at the end of 2009.

The Employment, Education and Training Team is currently undergoing a restructure and an expansion to allow the Chamber to deliver DEEWR’s School Business Community Partnership Brokers program. This program is part of the National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions, and will see the Chamber at the coalface of the ACT’s work to improve transition outcomes for young people as they move from school into the workforce.

New staff members have been appointed for this program, and commence work at the beginning of February. Please check back after that date for information on the development of the Chamber’s Partnership Brokers program. If you would like to discuss any of the Chamber’s Employment, Education and Training initiatives, please contact the Director, Trevar Chilver.
