The Ready program is focused on building partnerships to support young people to attain Yr 12 or equivalent qualifications and reach their full educational and social potential. The program is part of a national network of Partnership Brokers. In the ACT, we have called this program:

The Ready program is designed to foster a strategic, whole of community approach to improving education and transition outcomes for all young people. This is achieved through a national network of Partnership Brokers that create new partnerships and enhance existing partnerships between and among four key stakeholder groups:
The Partnership Brokers assist key stakeholders to enter into partnership arrangements that will enrich the learning experience for young people leading to improved levels of participation, engagement and attainment. These partnerships harness resources and build local infrastructure to support communities to share responsibility for young people's learning and development. The Partnership Brokers work with key stakeholders to identify the needs of their region, help partners to agree on how they can work together towards a common purpose, and support partnerships to achieve their goals.
Communication
The Ready team is committed to strong communication with Chamber members, schools and community organisations. As such, we produce a weekly e-newsletter called the Careers Digest. The Careers Digest provides the education sector with up-to-date information on events and other news in the education world.
If you would like to receive the Careers Digest, please email Sarah Kentwell on sarah.kentwell@actchamber.com.au

Current Partnerships
The Ready team are involved in numerous partnerships which are at various stages of development. Below are a few examples of partnerships that the Ready team have assisted recently.
CCCares
CCCares partnered with Northside Community Services to meet the need for free child minding while young parents participated in work placements. The partnership provided a minimum of one week of free childcare, through Northside Community Service’s Lock in the Learning Program. This partnership also raised awareness for the young parents of services that they could access through their local community once they leave school.
Pace-It Program
The Pace-It Program has been created to re-engage young people and aims to give them skills to successfully attain work and life experiences. The program has been developed through combined efforts of the ACT Department of Education and the Federal Police to enable young people to undertake a six week vocational course teaching them practical life skills, resume writing, interview skills and financial literacy.
Melba Pride Painters
The Building and Environment Centre at Canberra Institute of Technology have partnered with Melba Copland Secondary School to enable the school to offer a program to prepare Year 10 students for apprenticeships in painting and decorating. U-Turn Youth Services, Mission Australia, Employment Plus and Magnet Mart have also supported the program in which the students painted the exterior of a local Scout Hall as a their first community project.
Aged Care facilities and students
Partnerships have been created between Kangara Waters and Hawker College and between Kalparrin and Melba Copland Secondary School. These partnerships provide work experience options for students including aged care, hospitality, landscape, gardening and occupational therapy. Most importantly, they promote aged care as an attractive working environment for students and they enrich the aged care facility through the presence of young people.
The Gum Project
The GUM project was established to meet the needs of secondary students interested in working outdoors, improving the environment and working with plants. Four partners have been involved in developing and delivering the pilot project over the past three months – the Transitions, Careers and Vocational Learning Section of the ACT Directorate of Education and Training, Greening Australia, Lions Youth Haven and Waterwatch. Students have been able to develop skills in nursery work, conservation land management, tree planting, water sampling and testing and environmental management. LEAD has been involved in assessing the competencies developed by the students over the ten week program. This project reinforces the importance of onground conservation and partnerships between schools, environmental groups and land managers and landcarers to sustain the biological diversity of landscapes and places. It enabled the students involved to appreciate, experience and learn about ways of caring for these natural assets so that their values can be maintained and passed onto future generations.
